Arabic tattoo’s is going to deal more with “Muslim/Islamic” tattoos also as that is the major religion in the region.
In the relgion of Islam tattoo’s is strictly forbidden, a lot like the other religons. One has keep in mind the fact that body piercing, tattooing, branding, etc. all fall in the category of “unnecessary interference, alteration and mutilation of Allah’s creation.” Therefore Muslims should not get tattooed, but many chose to do so anyway in this new age.
To quote:

“Islam denounces excesses in beautifying oneself when it alters the physical features that Allah created him with. The Glorious Qur’an considers such alterations as inspired by Satan, who “…will command them (his devotees) to change what Allah has created…” (An-Nisa’: 119)
Some Arab women are in the habit of tattooing large areas of their bodies. People of certain religious sects tattoo pictures of their deities or religious rituals on their hands and chests.
This being said, temporary tattooing is allowed such as Henna Art or “Mehndi” which is popular in Southern Asia.
We will start with the Crescent Moon & Star Tattoo
The Crescent with Star, however, did not start as an Islamic symbol, but rather gained its popularity as a political symbol in the Middle East, eventually becoming associated with one of the main religions of the region. In fact, early Islamic communities used little in the way of symbolism, especially in terms of iconography.
Verses From the Koran
Many people choose to put the verse that means the most to them from the holy Koran on themselves as a way to remind themselves of what they believe in.

(Hamsa) Khamsa Hand Of Fatima Tattoo
Also sometimes known as the “Eye of Fatima” this symbol is already used all over in jewelry and decorations. There is also an alternative Jewish name for this and it is “Hand of Miriam” The symbol holds some significance for many Muslims, particularly in the Maghreb, including Egypt, Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia where it can be readily found in Arab markets. The Hamsa is a talisman to protect against the evil eye. In Egypt it is very widespread, and often painted on the fronts of homes, and in the Middle East, and in India and Pakistan. Because of this reason many people choose to get it as a tattoo.
There are literally many other “muslim tattoo’s” that people around the world have of different things, we just covered the most basic arabic tattoos even though most were Islamic tattoos in nature. It should be pointed out many even get the word allah tattood on to themselves as a way to identify themselves as muslims. I have included two other tattoo’s I have found, please tell me what you think of them.

Wrist Tattoo Designs Wednesday, July 04, 2007
A popular tattoo is a wrist tattoo. Wrist tattoo designs vary. Tattoo around the wrist is very popular especially a tribal wrist tattoo around the wrist. There are several different types of tattoos that can be inked in the wrist area: A bracelet or wristband style of tattoo usually encircles the entire wrist or at least follows the curves of the top and side of the wrist. This type of wrist tat is similar to an armband tattoo, just placed around the wrist instead of the upper arm.
A tattoo on the top of the wrist is usually the most visible, and can often extend onto the arm or hand. These tattoos can range in size from small to very large. Inner wrist tattoos are extremely popular, largely because they are less visible than other tats. Some people also prefer an inner wrist tattoo because it is considered to be more interesting, and many have taken their inspiration from the cover of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ album Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik.

(Katie Price) Jordans wrist tattoo can be found on the left. A Star tattoo on a wrist usually most of the time they’re described as nautical starts. If you ever see an old (possible nautical) compass, there’s sometimes a 4-pointed star pointing north, south, east and west, with half of one point being one colour, and the other half another, in the same a lot of modern day star tattoos are done.

Lindsay Lohan got a new wrist tattoo. Below you can see a picture of Lindsay Lohans wrist tattoo. Another popular wrist tattoo are Nicole Richie’s wrist tattoos, she has the word virgin and a star. A tribal wrist tattoo is very popular especially among young males. Tribal wrist tattoo pictures can be found at every parlor, and are also often created individually by the tattooed.

Hindustani Om Tattoo’s
Hindu tattoos are not as common to be found as other tattoos of other faiths. Many Hindus believe that your religion is not something that should become a fashion accessory and thus should not be inked on to your body.
Another reason why Hindu tattoos are not that popular is because of culture and because many argue that the Hindu religious symbol (the “Aum” or Om) should be kept clean and free from dirt.
Popular Hindu & Aum related tattoo ideas include:
The Om Symbol Tattoo
Om tattoo designs are amongst the most common Hindu tattoo designs ever.
The word Om (aum) derives from the Sanskrit. The Om is the primordial sound by which the earth was created- a similar concept to the Greek Logos. It symbolizes unfolding or expansion- when pronounced, it begins in the lungs, and ends on the lips. The symbol representing Om is called the omkar, and has four parts, representing the four states of human awareness
The Trishula Tattoo
Trisula means “trident.” The Trisula (often, trishula) is the three pronged ceremonial weapon of the Hindu Lord Shiva.
The three prongs represent the three shaktis (powers): will, action, and wisdom and thus is often used as part of a overall Hindu tattoo design.
Lotus with Om tattoo, Tibetian Om Tattoo, Om Mani Tattoo, Buddhist Tattoo
Story Behind it: The lotus blossom is one of the most important symbols used in spirituality and art. Brahma, the Hindu creator of the world, was born from a lotus blossom that grew from the navel of Vishnu on the water. However, the lotus paired with Om has a particularly significant Buddhist association. In Buddhism, the lotus is thought to symbolize the Buddha’s nature, pure and ascendant. Along with Om, it is part of the most famous of Buddhist mantras, Om Mani Padme Hum, or Praise to the Jewel in the Lotus.
Very frequently people like to mix up the trisula and om and get a tatoo that looks nice and describes and express’ them better through the use of colors.
Vedic Om Tattoo (Sanskrit Om)

Sikh Ek Onkar Tattoo are also popular but looked down upon same goes for Jain Om Tattoo.

Before getting a sikh tattoo ask yourself these three questions:
What will you think of this tattoo when you are 50?
What is the purpose of you getting this tattoo?
Does this tattoo go against my religion or will it help me express how proud I am of my religion?
We asked our Sikh friend:
“I think its probably wrong because its altering the body that god had given you and also I think in order to get a tattoo, hair has to be removed, so that would be a kurahit. If u got a ek onkaar on your hand what about when you are eating, going to the toilet and touching something that might be dirty it would be disrespectful.”
Our second friend was quoted as saying:
“I think it would be insulting to Sikhism to get a tattoo of any form, this is because Sikhism teaches acceptance of God’s will which is why Sikhs are not supposed to remove hair from any part of the body because hair grows, that is the way it is meant to be. To permanently ink one’s skin would be to edit God’s original form of the person. Sikhism is about growing inner faith for God, so wearing necklaces with the khanda or getting a tattoo is just showy which is what Guru Nanak teaches against. This is the same reason why Sikhs do not have malas and tilaks like the hindus.”
Recently an Indian actress mandira tidetan got in alot of trouble for displaying her omkar tattoo on her back by the media, which later she had to apologize for.
We feel as if tattoos are relatively new idea. If it passes the test of time and society, maybe in few years or decades it will be common and everyone will accept it as natura lly as we have accepted ear piercing. But once again, we should respect symbols of any religion as you respect your parents. Think long and hard before getting a tattoo especially of a religious kind.
Some of the more popular Punjabi tattoo’s are ofcourse, the khanda tattoo which comes in many designs, khanda with lion or tiger, khanda with omkar and even waheguru tattoo’s.
Check out some of the Sikh religous tattoo’s that we have found:
